If you are looking for a new boiler.... Consider this (if you can)

posted 26 May 2013 04:28 by Stel Alexander   [ updated 4 Jun 2013 09:43 ]

The boiler is not on the market just yet but the new boiler from Flow is set to shake up the market. The main selling point of the boiler is that it generates electricity while its heating up your home or hot water.

Its not for everyone though. Its only designed for houses that have a hot water cylinder. The other main selling point would be the fact that the boiler is FREE!!!! The home owner would only have to pay for the installation.

If you are interested go to THIS LINK to find out more. Its definitely worth considering.

Intergas Boilers

posted 6 Mar 2013 01:24 by Stel Alexander   [ updated 14 Apr 2013 02:28 ]

I installed an InterGas Boiler this week with Frank from JS Plumbing. The main feature the customer liked was its size. Due to the expansion tank not being inside the boiler compartment it is one of the thinest boilers, although you can by a fitting kit which means the expansion tank could be fitted in a rear jig. Its other main feature is its simplicity. The boiler has only 5 moving parts. It has no diverter valve, no valve motor, no auto air vent, no hot water plate heat exchanger & no air pressure switch. There is no need to by a heating controller because it has one fitted as standard. My only concern with this boiler is the time it takes to heat the hot water when the boiler has been off for a while. When we commissioned the boiler and turned the hot water on for the 1st time it did take a while to reach temperature.

If the central heating is on then i'm pretty certain the water would reach temperature a lot quicker due to its design.
Here is a video giving you some info on the InterGas Boiler

New Shower Pump

posted 19 Feb 2013 01:05 by Stel Alexander   [ updated 24 Feb 2013 12:03 ]

I was looking for some online media I could put on my website in the Showers section to provide info on booster pumps and I came across a new different style of pump. From what I can gather The Shower Power Booster is another way to boost the hot water only going to your shower, bath & hot taps. So this would benefit those who have a gravity fed hot water supply but a mains fed cold water supply. However I don't see a reason why it could not be fitted to your cold water supply if you had a gravity fed cold water. I may need to contact the manufacturer to confirm the theory.

This youtube video will show you how it works.

Thermostatic mixing valve must be installed

posted 14 Jul 2012 12:44 by Stel Alexander

This isn't exactly recent news however not many people know about the change in the building regulations which came into effect from 6th April 2010 which is:-

The hot water supply temperature to a bath should be limited to a maximum of 48°C by use of an in-line blending valve or other appropriate temperature control device.

You can find an online version of the building regulation in relation to hot water supply and systems here in section 3.65

There is an article on the 'Royal Society for the Prevention of Accident' regarding the change here

It has been known for some time copper can reduce the risk of spreading bacteria.
Watch a video at this link which explains why. Have a look round the site with the video to show you why copper reduces the spread of bacteria.
